Park Ridge Library patrons once again have access to special equipment to help them preserve favorite memories, make their favorite music more accessible and even design new creations now that the Library’s Media Lab is reopened.

Music fans can access the vinyl-to-digital turntable for converting their favorite albums into electronic files. A VHS-to-DVD converter is available preserving home movies. A Macintosh desktop computer, stocked with the full Adobe design suite, has returned as well. A microfilm machine for accessing historic documents and media, as well as an Optolec magnifier, are also included in the lab.

The Media Lab was closed just prior to the Library renovation last summer, but a new reconfigured space will offer better lighting and increased workspace for users. The Media Lab is located next to the Reference desk on the second floor.

In order to use the Media Lab, Park Ridge Library cardholders are required to complete an orientation which will be offered three times per week in a small class format. Orientations will be held weekly:  Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m.; Thursday afternoons at 2 p.m.; and Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. 

“We’re so excited to have the Media Lab up and running again,” said Adult Services Manager Laura Scott. “As the trend to de-clutter continues, this equipment will save patrons time and money transferring their favorite music and home movies to digital. Plus, they can avoid the stress of shipping their materials somewhere and paying to have them converted.” For more information on what equipment can be found in the Media Lab, click here.
