In a very impressive final week of Battle of the Books, St. Andrew’s Lutheran School prevailed.
The win marks the first time in 25 years that St. Andrews has won the contest, beating defending champion Washington Elementary by just 11 points.
“Everyone played so well and the energy in the room yesterday was really positive,” said Librarian and Elementary School Coordinator Catherine, who coordinates and emcees the event. “St. Andrew’s came out strong and held their ground for the entire season. It was a close race, but ultimately St. Andrew’s came out ahead.”
St. Andrew’s earned 592 points across the five-week competition. Washington Elementary placed second with 581 and Franklin came in third with 534. View the whole score sheet here.
All the teams will get to celebrate their hard work at a celebration complete with cupcakes on March 20.
For more than 40 years, the Park Ridge Public Library has partnered with Park Ridge schools to offer fourth and fifth grade students a chance to test their knowledge of books.
Each school forms its own team under the guidance of a coach (a school librarian, teacher or parent) who decides the make-up of the team, schedules practice time, and sets the requirements for being part of that school’s team.
