The Library will be closed on Sunday, May 24, and Monday, May 25, for the Memorial Day holiday.

Patrons enjoy drop-in Studio time

A mix of experienced and first-time users of The Studio, our makerspace, enjoyed an afternoon of crafting Monday at the first of two drop-in Studio sessions this July. Participants age 14 and up were invited to make beaded bag charms with an array of crafting supplies. The charms could be used to decorate everyday items like tote bags, purses, pool bags or backpacks.

Typically, a patron is required to attend an orientation before they can use The Studio on their own, or they can attend a class without taking the orientation. This program offered a way for people to just drop in anytime between 1 and 3 p.m.

“With summer being in full swing, we thought it would be a good way for people to just come in and hang out in The Studio rather than trying to commit to a specific time slot,” said Librarian Grace Wechman.

Seventeen patrons stopped in between 1 and 3 p.m. A typical Studio class can accommodate 4 people and an instructor. “It’s the most participants we’ve had for a pop-up class,” said Librarian Rachel Depcik. “I am not sure if it’s the drop-in format or the craft, but we had more interest for sure.”

A second drop-in class is scheduled for Monday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Women of varying ages work on a craft. Two women pose next to the bead project they completed.
