The Park Ridge Library Board of Trustees honored outgoing trustee Karen Burkum at its October 18 general meeting for serving six years as a trustee.

Burkum served six years on the Board of Trustees, including as vice president from 2020 to 2021. Burkum also served as chair of the communications committee from 2017 to 2019 and again from 2021 to 2022. In addition, she chaired the Planning & Operations committee from 2019 to 2021.

“On a macro level, we all know the library is the seed of our democracy,” Burkum said. “But on a micro level, it is Park Ridge, it is our community, it’s our neighbors, and it means everything to me.” Burkum thanked the mayor for appointing her and giving her the opportunity to serve on the board.

The Mayor’s Advisory Board, consisting of four aldermen, interviews candidates for non-elected city boards and commissions and makes recommendations to the mayor, who presents them to the full city council for a final vote.
