Get a library card, or refer a friend who needs one!

bookmarks promoting library card sign upIt’s that time of year when kids go back to school and adults have that back-to-school feeling, which means it’s a great time to get a library card! If you know someone who needs a library card, pick up a library card sign-up bookmark at any library service desk between now and September 6, and pass it on to a friend OR family member to encourage them to sign up for one using the form on the back of the bookmark.

When your friend or family member signs up for a card, they can bring the bookmark in and get entered into our prize drawing. If they’re applying online, they can bring the bookmark in when they come to pick up their card. Either way, be sure they write down your name as the library user who suggested they get a library card so you both have a chance to win.

In the prize drawing, we will give away six Park Ridge-themed ‘swag bags’ worth $25 – they’ll include some library swag, a gift card to a local business, and some other fun items related to the community.

Parents signing up their children or other family members are eligible. They will get two entries into the drawing. Everyone in fifth grade and younger receives something from the Children’s Services desk when they sign up for a library card.

The prize drawing will be held Friday, September 6.

How to Get a Library Card

Park Ridge residents can get a library card free of charge. To obtain a library card, residents should bring proof of residency with their current home address (driver’s license, state ID card, checkbook, utility bill or lease) to the Patron Services Desk in the Library’s first floor lobby. Cards are valid for three years. Every card also comes with a keychain-sized card, and cardholders with a smartphone can download the Keyring app to check out books directly from their phone.

Residents can also sign up for a card online here.

Benefits of a Library Card

Libraries play a crucial role in the education and development of children, offering a variety of programs to spark creativity and stimulate an interest in reading and learning. Through access to technology, media resources and educational programs, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams, explore new passions and interests, and find their voice.

At the Park Ridge Library, patrons of all ages can find a variety of educational resources and activities, including Storytimes, book discussions for all ages, craft classes in our makerspace, author talks and more.

The Park Ridge Library, along with libraries everywhere, continues to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving community needs.
