Friends of the Library ready for Spring Book Sale, May 3-4

The Friends of the Park Ridge Library will host their annual Spring Book Sale in the first floor meeting room at the Library on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A special Members Only Preview Night is open to members of the Friends of the Library on Friday, May 2, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Friends of the Library memberships can be purchased online at parkridgelibrary.org/join-the-friends or at the door on Preview Night. Memberships start at $25 for an individual membership; cash or check is accepted.

A Half-Price Sale will be held Sunday, May 4, from noon to 2 p.m.

The sale features recent fiction and nonfiction bestsellers, children’s picture and chapter books, travel guides, history, cookbooks, and all types of craft books. In addition, there are feature and classic movies and TV shows on DVD as well as CDs and vinyl ranging from jazz and classical to country and rock.

“We are thrilled to once again be able to offer a variety of books in this year’s sale,” said Susan Gilpin, co-president of the Friends. “Shoppers will find a huge array of children’s books, cookbooks, bestselling nonfiction and fiction as well as vinyl and DVDs. We especially appreciate the support of the Scout troops who collected a large amount of books from their friends and neighbors this March.” Park Ridge Scout Pack 201 and Troops 1, 50 and 105G conducted a community-wide book and board game drive in mid-March and delivered everything to the Library to be included in the Spring sale.

Programs and projects that the Friends have supported recently include a concert series featuring a different genre of music each season. On June 12, they will welcome jazz ensemble The Chris White Trio. They will also sponsor the Summer Reading Sendoff on August 16, as well as prizes for both the Summer and Winter Reading programs. The Friends also sponsor the purchase of licenses to screen films at the Library.

The Friends of the Library is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization, dedicated to the support of the Library.  Through an annual membership drive and several large book sales, the Friends raise money for special programs, collections and services that enhance the Library and benefit the community.  Each year the Friends contribute more than $20,000 to the Library.
