Vietnam Veterans share experiences at November 7 program

In honor of Veterans Day, Gary Sieroslawski and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 311 will share their experiences serving in the Vietnam War in a presentation at the Park Ridge Library on Tuesday, November 7 at 7 p.m.

and was in Vietnam from January 1969 until April 1970. He will be joined by three fellow veterans who served in myriad ways:

  • Kim Joiner enlisted in Navy at 17. He served aboard a ship off the coast of Vietnam in 1972 and 1973. His duty was a radar/electronic warfare operator.
  • Alan Krause was drafted in 1969 and served in Vietnam from July 1970 until April 1971. He was a combat infantryman assigned to a reconnaissance platoon, which patrolled in the jungle looking for enemy infiltration routes.
  • Mark O’Brien enlisted in the Air Force in 1970. He was stationed at Ton Son Nhut Air Base, Vietnam from January to December 1971. He was a Base Security Specialist performing security duties.

The program will be held in the Library’s first floor meeting room. Register for the in-person program or the virtual program, available via Zoom.

In addition to this program, the Library’s second floor display case contains items shared with us by members of the American Legion in honor of Veteran’s Day. Across from the display, our Reference staff has put together a display of nonfiction related to veterans and military service. Please ask at the Reference desk for additional recommendations or if there is a specific title that interests you.

We are open on Veterans Day, recognized this year on Friday, November 10, our regular hours, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
