Your Library Card: Access to Curated Information

We live in an age of information overload, where we can access data from almost  anywhere with a few clicks on our keyboard, tablet or smartphone. While the average Google search nets five million hits, how do you find the right answer? When almost one million books are published each year in the U.S. alone, how do you decide which one to read? If you want to learn more about your community, where do you go?

Whether you are looking for a book recommendation, researching a topic or discovering what the community has to offer, the Library offers curated information that reflects the needs and interests of Park Ridge.

LIBRARIANS ARE THE ULTIMATE SEARCH ENGINE

Separating fact from fiction poses a unique challenge in the internet era. We can help you locate the most accurate and up-to-date information available, whether it’s online, in one of our 60 data bases or even in a book. If we don’t have the book available, we’ll request it through the Interlibrary Loan Service from libraries worldwide. We’ll also help you find your next great read with our new Book Match programs for adults, teens and kids.

IT’S 1 A.M. AND YOU AND YOU WANT TO FIND A SEQUEL TO THE BOOK YOU JUST READ

You don’t have to wait for the Library to open to check out that next book you want to read. You have 24/7 access to 360,000 books through Overdrive, Hoopla and Axis 360. As a cardholder you have access to an expanded selection of best sellers through Overdrive.

EXPAND YOUR WORLD WITHOUT LEAVING HOME

Your Library card also gives you access to movies, music magazines, TV shows and more through Library apps such as Kanopy, Hoopla, Flipster and RBDigital.

YOUR CHILD HAS SURPASSED YOUR ALGEBRA ABILITY AND NEEDS HELP

With Tutor.com students can chat with a live tutor daily from 3 to 10 PM or use the Skills Center 24/7. Tutors who are experts in math, science, writing and social studies provide one on one tutoring so that your student can complete the paper or homework assignment that’s due tomorrow—Today!

YOU WANT TO LEARN ABOUT THE HISTORY OF YOUR 100-YEAR-OLD HOUSE

The best place to learn about Park Ridge history is the Library. We are the sole source for more than 286,000 pages of searchable, digitized community newspaper archives—some dating back to 1889.  We also provide local history buffs with a unique collection of city directories, phone books and yearbooks focusing on Park Ridge through our Heritage collection (which will again be available after renovation is completed.)
