Park Ridge residents might notice a familiar face in the storefronts of Uptown this month. Funky Monkey, the official mascot of the Summer Reading club, is back, and he has started making appearances at area businesses, beginning this week where he could be found hanging around the windows of the ticket booth at the Pickwick Theatre. From now until August 18, kids can read the clue posted in the Children’s Services department at the Library, then find him at a local business based on the clue. After answering a specific question about him that they’d only know from visiting him in person, they get a sticker and a chance to win a prize.
Library patrons of all ages are expanding their horizons this summer by participating in the Library’s Summer Reading Club: A Universe of Stories. The space-themed, summer-long program offers reading challenges for all ages. This year, participants have the option to sign up and track their reading online via the Library’s website at www.parkridgelibrary.org/summer-reading-clubs-2019/
About the Summer Reading Clubs
Children from birth to grade six can earn a sticker and a prize drawing ticket for every five days they spend time reading. Prize drawings will be held twice: Sunday, July 14 and Sunday, August 18. If they read at least 20 days by Sunday, August 18, kids will earn a free book. Prize drawing tickets and prizes are awarded starting Monday, June 13. Reading logs are available at the Children’s Services desk.
Teens who read four books by August 18 or read for 30 days will get a free paperback book and raffle tickets. Adults who complete the four reading challenges or log 12 reading hours by August 18 will receive a free tote bag.
