Summer Reading Clubs Heating Up!
July 22, 2010
More than 3,000 patrons, including an intrepid Pioneer Press reporter, have signed up for summer reading clubs at the Library.
Jennifer Johnson, a senior reporter for the Park Ridge Herald-Advocate, decided to take the Readopoly challenge: reading eight books before August 29. Johnson discussed her progress in a recent article that can be read at http://www.pioneerlocal.com/parkridge/news/2516164,park-ridge-readingclub-070110-s1.article.
While children make up the bulk of reading club participants (2,230 as of July 8), more than 475 young adults and 390 adults have signed on.
There's still time to sign up!
Children can choose between two clubs:
Read Around the Town (Infants -- Going Into Grade 1)
Jump in a car, ride a bike or walk on over to Read Around Town! Receive a sticker for your campground folder every time you complete a 100 minute trail. Collect four stickers to complete the club and receive a prize.
I Spy Readers (Going into grade 2 -- 6)
So you think you know a lot about Park Ridge? Become an “I Spy Reader” and learn about Park Ridge then and now. Sign-up for the reading club, read 600 minutes and complete the club. Earn stickers and raffle tickets along the way.
In addition to signing-up for the reading clubs, you can guess how many in our guessing jar, do a craft, and have your bicycle helmet checked for safety.
Young Adults grades 6 and up can join as well! It’s this simple: Read 5 books and get a free paperback book; read more for extra credit and a chance for additional prizes.
Celebrate 100 years of Park Ridge by reading for a chance to win $100 Gift Cards. Sign up in-person at the Library to get a reading log and more information.
And, of course, Adults have their own reading club! Read a total of eight books between Friday, June 11, and Sunday August 29 and you’ll win a canvas tote bag as well as be entered to win a Burke's Books gift certificate. See the Reader Services Desk for details.
