Accessing Other Library Databases Remotely

Clearing the Cookies/Temporary Internet Files Sometimes there are too many cookies and temporary Internet files stored in the browser. Clearing those files may work. In your browser, select “Tools” and then “Internet Options”. Click on “Delete Cookies” then OK, and then click “Delete Files” and click OK.

Occasionally, you can't get to a specific databases available from the library web page from home at all. You might need to change your browser settings to accept “cookies” from a specific web page. More recent web browsers often have a higher default security setting, and the necessary “cookie” settings will not automatically install on your PC.

You could try this:
  1. At the top of your browser, go to “Tools”.
  2. Select “Internet Options”.
  3. Select the “Privacy” tab.
  4. Click on the “Edit” button.
  5. In the field at the top of the page, type in the web address (e.g., netadvantage.standardandpoors.com)
  6. Click on the “Allow” button.
  7. Click on the OK button.
  8. Click on the “Refresh” button at the top of your browser.
  9. Close out your browser.
  10. Re-open browser and go to the library’s website and to the online dataset, logging on as you would normally.
Pop-Up Blockers:
Some databases require the use of pop-ups. If you have the po-up blocker enabled in your browser, this might prevent a database from behaving properly. Check your computer, usually the lower right corner of the task bar, for an icon that will flash when you try to access something on the web site. Right click on the pop-up blocker and set it to accept pop-ups from the site.

If all else fails and you still are having problems, please call the Reference Department at 847-720-3230 and let us know. We will do what we can to help you out. We can't guarantee to solve all access issues, but we'll try our best!
