Accessing Adobe eBooks
Our eBook collection is accessible through the library’s catalog or by visiting the web site digitalbooks.eapl.org. This web site contains a list of our available eBooks, as well as a good help section if you have any trouble downloading or viewing the Adobe content.
Please note that an Adobe eBook is only viewable on the PC to which it is downloaded - it cannot be transferred or copied. Therefore, we recommend that you download the Adobe eBooks from home or work.
Getting Adobe Acrobat Reader
You’ll need the Adobe Acrobat Reader version 7 to use these eBooks. You can click on the following button to view system requirements and install the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader to your computer.
After you download Adobe Acrobat Reader, you’ll be able to download and view the eBooks. The basic steps for finding and downloading the eBooks are:
- Search for the audiobooks that you want to checkout
- Use your library card number to check out the items
- Download the files
- Use Adobe Acrobat Reader to display/read the book

Detailed instructions for downloading the Adobe eBooks
- Go to http://parkridge.lib.overdrive.com/ to search or browse our Digital Audiobook collection
- When you find a book that you wish to check out, click "add to BookBag"
- When you’ve added all items to the BookBag that you want to check out, click "Proceed to Checkout"
- NOTE: You may check out up to 10 digital books at a time (eBooks or eAudiobooks)
- Login with your library card
- Choose "Park Ridge" from the drop down list
- Type in your 14 digit barcode number (no spaces)
- Click the "Sign In" button
- Click the "Confirm check out" button to get your book.
- Once the item is checked out, you can click the "Download" button
- After the download is complete, you may use the Adobe Acrobat Reader features to display or read your eBook.

What is the loan period for my Adobe eBook?
The item is checked out for 3 weeks.
Do I have to return my Adobe eBook?
No, the eBook will expire in 3 weeks, and will check-in automatically. The file will remain
on your computer, but it will not be usable unless you checkout the item again. You may
delete the file when you no longer need it.
Can I renew my Adobe eBook?
You may check out the eBook again at the end of the 3 week loan period,
unless someone else is on hold.
Are there any fines or other costs?
No! Since the eBook will check itself in, there will never be a late charge. There aren’t any
physical items to lose or replace, so you won’t have to worry about misplacing materials.
Can I return the Adobe eBook early?
Yes, you can return it early if you wish. In the Adobe Acrobat Reader 7, choose "File -Digital Editions-My digital editions". Right click on the title you wish to return, and choose "Return to Lender". The item will be returned instantly.
How do holds work?
You can place a hold on the digital books web site. When the item is available for checkout,
the system will send you an email notification. If you have not checked out the book
within 48 hours of the notification, the system will cancel your hold and move to the next person on the holds list.
How many Adobe eBooks can I check out?
You may have up to 10 digital books checked out at any one time. Digital books include Adobe eBooks, Mobipocket eBooks, and Digital Audiobooks.
How long does it take to download the Adobe eBook?
On a broadband connection, most Adobe eBooks will download in under 2 minutes. Dial up connections will take considerably longer, usually 12-110 minutes.
