Accessing Mobipocket eBooks

Our eBook collection is accessible through the library’s catalog or by visiting the web site at http://parkridge.lib.overdrive.com/ . This web site contains a list of our available eBooks, as well as a good help section if you have any trouble downloading or viewing the Mobipocket content.

Getting Mobipocket Reader

You’ll need the Mobipocket Reader to use these eBooks. You can click on the following button to view system requirements and install the latest version of Mobipocket Reader to your computer.

Registering Mobipocket PID’s

After you download Mobipocket Reader, you’ll need to register your PID’s.

  1. Sign in to “My Digital Account”
  2. Choose “My Mobipocket ID’s”
  3. Type in your Mobipocket PID and click the Add button Note: You may register up to 3 devices
  4. Click “Done” when you have added all of your PID’s
  5. After you have downloaded and/or registered your Mobipocket software, the basic steps for finding and downloading the eBooks are:
    1. Search for the eBooks that you want to checkout
    2. Use your library card number to check out the items
    3. Download the files
    4. Read the items on your PC or transfer the items to a portable device

Detailed instructions for downloading the Mobipocket eBooks
  1. Be sure to install the Mobipocket reader
  2. Go to http://parkridge.lib.overdrive.com/ to search or browse our Digital Audiobook collection
  3. When you find a book that you wish to check out, click "add to BookBag"
  4. When you’ve added all items to the BookBag that you want to check out, click Proceed to Checkout
    NOTE: You may check out up to 10 digital books at a time (eBooks or eAudiobooks)
  5. Login with your library card
  6. Choose "Park Ridge" from the drop down list
  7. Type in your 14 digit barcode number (no spaces)
  8. Click the "Sign In" button
  9. Click the "Confirm check out" button to get your book.
  10. Once the item is checked out, you can click the "Download" button
  11. After the download is complete, you may use the Mobipocket Reader to read the eBook.
  12. To transfer the eBook to a portable device, choose the “Send to PDA” option on the reader.

What is Mobipocket Reader?

The Mobipocket Reader is a universal eBook Reader for Windows
computers (desktop/laptop/tablet) as well as SmartPhones and
most PDAs (Palm/Pocket PC/etc.). Featuring bookmarking to
facilitate quick returns to noteworthy sections, full text
searching, and adjustable font size and color, the Mobipocket
Reader offers an enriched reading experience.

In order to use Mobipocket eBooks, it seems I have to register a 'PID'. What is a PID, and why do I have to register a PID with this site?

A PID (Personal IDentifier) is a unique identifier for your copy
of Mobipocket Reader. Registration of your PID
is required so that your copy of Mobipocket
is registered to your device, enabling your device to open
and use eBooks that have been copyright-protected
using DRM (Digital Rights Management). This process is necessary because
many publishers require strong copy protection to
prevent unlawful redistribution of their eBooks. Once your PID is registered,
you can download and enjoy the many premium eBooks
that have been secured for distribution in this format.

What is the loan period for my Mobipocket eBook?

The item is checked out for 3 weeks.

Do I have to return my Mobipocket eBook?

No, the eBook will expire in 3 weeks, and will check-in automatically.
The file will remain on your computer, but it will not be
usable unless you checkout the item again. You may
delete the file when you no longer need it.

Can I renew my Mobipocket eBook?

You may check out the eBook again at the end of the 3 week loan period,
unless someone else is on hold.

Are there any fines or other costs?

No! Since the eBook will check itself in, there will never be a late charge.
There aren’t any physical items to lose or replace,
so you won’t have to worry about misplacing materials.

Can I return the Mobipocket eBook early?

No, it will remain checked out for the 3 week loan period.

How do holds work?

You can place a hold on the digital books web site. When the item
is available for checkout, the system will send you an
email notification. If you have not checked out the book within
48 hours of the notification, the system will cancel
your hold and move to the next person
on the holds list.

How many Mobipocket eBooks can I check out?

You may have up to 10 digital books checked out at any one time.
Digital books include Adobe eBooks, Mobipocket eBooks,
and Digital Audiobooks.

How long does it take to download the Mobipocket eBook?

On a broadband connection, most Mobipocket eBooks will download in less
than 1 minute. Dial up connections will take a bit longer, usually 10-110 minutes.
