Are you ready to read?  Then come to the Library and be among the first to join a Summer Reading Club.  Sign-up for all Clubs is in the First Floor Meeting Room.

 

READING CLUBS

Friday, June 11 through Sunday, August 15

Read Around Town       Infants – Going into Grade 1

Jump in a car, ride a bike or walk on over to Read Around Town!  Receive a sticker for your campground folder every time you complete a 100 minute trail. Collect four stickers to complete the club and receive a prize.

I Spy Readers        Going into Grades 2 – 6

So you think you know a lot about Park Ridge, huh?  Do you know the answers to these questions?   What happened to Central School?  Where was the "artist colony"?  What was special about the women’s dressing room at the Tennis Club?  Sound intriguing?  Want to know more?  Become an "I Spy Reader" and learn about Park Ridge then and now.   Sign-up for the reading club, read 600 minutes and complete the club.  Earn stickers and raffle tickets along the way.

Celebrate Park Ridge history as we make fun projects to remind us about our town.  Stop at the desk in Children’s Services to pick up a craft to make at home. We will continue to hand out crafts until our limited supply is gone.

Smokey will be visiting some of your favorite Park Ridge places.  Come into the library each week and tell us where Smokey is for a chance to win prizes.   Drop in.

As you travel, whether near or far, we’d love to hear from you.  Send us a postcard and we will display them for everyone to enjoy.  Pick up a mailing label in Children’s Services before you go.

Wacky Monday       Going into Grade 1 - 2

Book Buddies         Going into Grade 2                        

Monday, June 21 through Friday, July 30

Readers going into 2nd grade are paired with a student in Grade 6 or above. The   paired buddies will meet at the Library for a scheduled 30-minute session each week to read, talk and pick out books.  Space is limited.  Registration starts on Friday, June 11 in person.  Please register with the Young Adult Librarian. 

 

Percy Jackson: Adventure Awaits              Going into Grades 3 – 6

Wednesday, July 14            3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Are you prepared to battle the gods? Then join us for an adventuresome afternoon as we battle the gods, learn about our own demi-god powers, and find out what ambrosia tastes like. Registration begins Saturday, June 19.

 

Battle Boot Camp           Going into Grades 4 - 5                                    

Friday, June 25        3:00 – 4:00 p.m. OR Wednesday, July 21  7:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Learn tips and tactics for the upcoming Battle of the Books season. We'll have a "mock" battle so you can know what it's like to be part of the team. Parents and interested adults welcome.  Drop in.

 

Just Picture It                      Going into Grades 5-6

You’ve maybe seen pictures from 100 years ago but what happens in Park Ridge today?   Take a digital camera and record the "happenings"—big and small--in your house, neighborhood or around town.  If you don’t have access to a camera or can’t take pictures beforehand, sign up anyway.  We’ve got cameras you can borrow and we’ll be taking a "digital hike" around Uptown then coming back to the library to look at what we’ve got and develop a photostory called "A Day in the Life of Park Ridge."  Don’t miss this once in a century program.  Limit of 8.

Simple and Snappy Bulletin Boards

Monday, July 26 OR Wednesday July 28           7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Do you ever look at the displays in the Children’s Department and wonder how we do that? Former teacher Mary Mason shares her tips and strategies for creating eye-catching bulletin boards. Continuing Education credit and CPDU will be available. Registration begins Saturday, July 3.
