Volunteer Positions

Adult and High School Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities at the Park Ridge Public Library include the positions listed below.  For current availability information, contact the Volunteer Coordinator at (847) 720-3285, or email volunteer@prpl.org.
 


Readers and Leaders Program Assistant in Children's Services: To assist library staff during a weekly program for children ages 3 to 5 that encourages literary skill development.

Children's Services Assistant: volunteer may help prepare craft material, sort and collate department hand-outs, shred documents, and clean toys and other program materials.

Clerical Support Assistant: volunteer may perform data entry, filing, sorting and shredding of documents, assist with assorted mailing projects and photo copying.

Material Repair Assistant:
volunteer may sort and label damaged materials, repair library materials by attaching labels, pockets, and plastic jackets, CD Book and DVD covers, checks AV materials for damage, clean CDs and DVDs.

Preschool Delivery Assistant: 
volunteer picks up tote bag from library, delivers materials to preschools, and returns tote with previous library materials.  
 
Program Assistant to Reader Services Department: volunteer may arrange and set up the room as directed, prepare and/or arrange name tags, programs, welcome and greet library patrons and run AV equipment during films.
 
Program Assistant to Outreach Coordinator: Two 1 ½ hour shifts per month or as arranged, travel to area nursing homes to assist Outreach Coordinator during programs, volunteer may assist with readings or skits, sing-a-longs or games.
 
Circulation Assistant: volunteer may sort materials from outdoor book/AV drop onto carts by call number and department, shelve reserved materials onto reserve shelf and search for missing materials. 
 
Volunteer Coordinator Assistant: volunteer may perform data entry, filing, sorting and assist with assorted mailing projects and photo copying.
 
Material Processing Assistant: two to three hours per week on call by department, volunteer may prepare library materials for circulation by attaching labels, pockets, and plastic jackets, remove or mark out barcode from discarded materials, disassemble AV materials containers and packaging for recycling purposes.
 
Computer Class Assistants: one to three hours as arranged monthly, volunteer observes during computer classes or Open Computer Lab and assists instructor as directed, i.e. demonstrating use of mouse, indicating location of drop down menus, etc., to individual students. 
 
Adopt-a-shelf Volunteers: one hour weekly, at volunteer’s convenience. Volunteer adopts a section of shelves and keeps materials in order.
