Volunteer at the Library
Junior Volunteer Opportunities Summer 2010
The Park Ridge Public Library recruits adult and young adult volunteers throughout the year to assist regular staff in supplemental areas wherever possible. Volunteers are assigned to an area of the Library where help is needed.
Volunteers help staff members with a wide variety of tasks that may include, but are not limited to:
- Delivering Library materials to homebound patrons (adult volunteers only)
- Reshelving books
- Searching for missing Library materials in the building
- Checking in Library materials
- Performing clerical tasks, such as folding, collating, and stuffing envelopes
- Labeling books
- Adopt-a-Shelf: reading shelves to make sure that Library materials are in proper order
- Typing and word processing
- Assisting with computer classes
- Phoning patrons to remind them of upcoming programs for which they registered
Young adult volunteers must be in grade 6-12 and are welcome to use their time volunteering at the Library to fulfill community service hours for church and/or school. Volunteer positions for young adults are available during the school year on Monday through Friday after school hours and on occasional Saturdays. During the summer, the Library offers a special Jr. Volunteer program with limited spaces. Sign-up for this program begins during the Library's Summer Reading Kick-Off.
Adults and young adults who want to volunteer on an ongoing basis must fill out a Volunteer Application and submit it to the Reader Services Desk.
