50th Anniversary ProclamationWHEREAS the Friends of the Park Ridge Public Library was founded in 1946 by Bessie Hayles, Clyde Bedell, Dr. Orvis Jordan and other Park Ridge residents dedicated to enhancing the Library; and WHEREAS, since 1946 numerous public spirited citizens have given generously of their time and treasury to increase the facilities, services, and use of the Park Ridge Public Library and thus enrich the cultural and educational opportunities available to the community it serves; and WHEREAS, these benefits have taken the form of enhanced public awareness of Library collections and services available to residents as well as support for improved Library facilities, computer and audio-visual items, books, reading machines for blind and handicapped users, program speakers, and many other Library services; and WHEREAS, the Friends of the Library continue with their current membership drive to support current and future development of the Library's facilities, collections and services; and WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize and honor these dedicated volunteers during National Library Week 1996 for their 50 year efforts to enhance Park Ridge and its educational resources. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ronald W. Wietecha, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Park Ridge, hereby proclaim National Library week, April 12-20, 1996 in honor of the Friends of the Park Ridge Public Library and congratulate them on their 50 years of support. I urge the citizens of this community to support in every way the activities and endeavors of the Friends of the Park Ridge Public Library. Dated this 1st day of April 1996 A.D
