MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE PLANNING & OPERATIONS COMMITTEE OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE PARK RIDGE PUBLIC LIBRARY HELD MAY 8, 2007 AT 7:38 P.M. IN THE MEMORIAL ROOM OF THE LIBRARY ROLL CALL: PRESENT: ABSENT: Approval of Minutes Mrs. O'Neill-Burke made a MOTION: To approve the minutes for the Planning and Operations Committee Meeting held April 10, 2007. Ms. Hynous SECONDED the motion. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. Newly Elected City Council Orientation The Committee discussed the orientation/dinner for the newly elected officials which will take place on Tuesday, June 19 at 6:00 p.m. Dinner will be served, then a tour conducted of the Library, the regular Board meeting will follow at 7:30 p.m. It was discussed that there should be a short agenda for the orientation, with the most important points presented reiterated. Mr. Crandus suggested giving the officials a copy of the Library Strategic Plan and a fact sheet. Community Survey Ms. Hynous SECONDED the motion. Mrs. Van De Carr talked to Sally Pryor of District 64, who gave her the name of the company that District 64 used for their community survey. Unicom sent the Library a proposal for a 12 to 15 minute survey. The Committee also discussed a possible Internet survey. The Committee discussed conducting the community survey in Fall 2007. Northern Illinois University also sent information on their surveys they conduct surveys for many libraries. The Committee decided that the Library may want to consider going with 400 respondents rather than 500 and that each trustee come up with one or two topics to cover on the survey. Strategic Plan 07-08 - Action Plans The Committee discussed objectives and action plans for 2007-08. The Committee addressed the point in the Strategic Plan about volunteers and recruitment. Mrs. Van De Carr discussed the Library's volunteer program and our summer project to attract Junior Volunteers who will work 2 hours per week for 5 weeks during the summer. Other Mrs. Van De Carr reported that it is anticipated that all work on the City Commons will be completed in time for the Taste of Park Ridge. Also, that the new Access Services manager had been hired and would start work on June 4. Michael Vollmer will work with Mr. Kleckner for 4 weeks prior to his retirement. At the first orientation for the new City Council, Mr. Crandus addressed the lack of space and the constraints of the current building. Mrs. Van De Carr announced that the Library had broken last year's circulation record by 14,014 items, having checked out 713,213 items. She added that this is the first time the Library has broken the 700,000 mark. Adjournment: 8:49 p.m. |
