OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BUILDING & GROUNDS COMMITTEE
OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE PARK RIDGE PUBLIC LIBRARY HELD
OCTOBER 11, 2007 AT 8:25 P.M. IN THE THIRD FLOOR MEETING ROOM OF THE LIBRARY
ROLL CALL:
PRESENT: Patricia Lofthouse, Chair; John Benka, Richard Van Metre, Library Board;
Janet Van De Carr, Library Director; Linda Egebrecht, Library Staff.
ABSENT: Arthur Davis.
Approval of Committee Minutes
Mr. Benka made a
MOTION : To approve the minutes for the Buildings and Grounds Meeting held
September 13, 2007.
Mr. Van Metre SECONDED the motion.
MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.
City Commons
Mrs. Van De Carr shared with the Committee several comments from the public regarding the bluestone. Mrs. Van De Carr is researching other options, such as recyclable materials.
Mrs. Lofthouse reported on the tree grates that she had seen in downtown Chicago. The 48” x 96: rectangle grates run about $2,105 and are manufactured by the Neenah Foundry Co., in Neenah, Wisconsin.
Exterior Library Signs
Mrs. Van De Carr reported that the City's ordinance does not allow signs over the second floor of a building. The Committee agreed that Mrs. Van De Carr should seek a variance from the City. Also, the City does not allow electronic sign boards, therefore a programming announcement board will not be possible.
Facility Update
Mr. Weiland was waiting for estimates for carpet for various areas of the Library. Mrs. Van De Carr stated she will look for more carpeting companies. She added that she is still looking for bathroom partition installers. Mrs. Van De Carr reported on various other items:
- Fire alarm system is functional and Fox Valley Fire was in the building last week completing the work. A new radio signal transmitter will be installed this fall to notify the 911 center in the event of a fire.
- Phone line Mrs. Van De Carr is working to get a new phone line to replace the one that shorts out as a result of being cut 3 times.
- “No Skateboarding, bicycling…” etc. signs have been posted on the Library property.
- Exterior painting the Library will wait until spring, because work is over the $20,000 limit and requires a formal bid. The building was last painted in 2004.
- Mrs. Van De Carr will obtain a rough estimate for the cost of removing the shipping and receiving doors from the front of the building.
- Front doors awaiting weather stripping to close gap between the doors.
- Maintenance manager position Mrs. Van De Carr reported that the Library received 58 applications for the position, held 13 interviews, and is awaiting the results of the background check on the candidate to whom the position was offered.
- Reference wall Mackin 1/ soffit design 2 open design Committee looked at the designs (with different windows) and agreed no soffit is necessary.
Other
- Huntsville, AL considering libraries as shelter space in a catastrophe.
- William Bailey of ESG in Elk Grove contacted Mr. Davis and Mrs. Lofthouse regarding renovating space.
- Survey the Committee briefly discussed the community survey questions..
