About Us

The Park Ridge Public Library is a city library that serves the residents of Park Ridge, Illinois.  The Library's service boundaries are the city limits.  The Park Ridge Public Library is a member of the North Suburban Library System and participates in reciprocal borrowing with over forty public libraries in the system.

The Library's Mission and Vision statements were approved by the Library Board of Trustees June 23, 2009.

 
Board of Trustees

The Park Ridge Public Library is governed by a nine member Board of Trustees, appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council. 

Board Meetings and Committee Meetings
 

The Board of Trustees meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the first floor meeting room of the Library.  Committees meet at 7:30 p.m. on the Tuesday and Thursday preceeding the monthly Board Meetings.  All meetings are open to the public. 2010 Calendar.

Policies

The Library's Policy Manual includes information on loans of circulating materials, meeting room use, the selection policy,  library programs and services.


Strategic Plan

The Library Board of Trustees and staff have developed a Strategic Plan that includes six Strategic Directions.  The plan is reviewed and updated annually.

The Library's fiscal year is May 1 - April 30, the most recent annual report is available online.


Exhibits and Displays

          The Library hosts monthly displays of art, collections or special exhibits from non-commercial organizations.

History of the Library

The Park Ridge Public Library was established in 1913 and the first building was erected on the corner of Prospect Avenue and Northwest Highway with funds provided by a grant from Andrew Carneige.  In 1958 the Library moved to a new building across the street, at the corner of Touhy and Prospect Avenues.  In 1978 an addition doubled the size of the building to its present 36,000 square feet. The Library currently serves a population of 37,775 and averages more than 1,400 visitors daily.

 

Library Departments

The Library has seven departments: Administration, Circulation, Children's Services, Reader Services, Reference, Technical Services and Maintenance.
